EL PASO, TEXAS – Viva! El Paso, one of the Sun City’s most beloved summer traditions, looks to build on that reputation with a 42nd season filled with familiar favorites and some new touches, including upgraded sets, new choreography and music, and the addition of pre-show entertainment.
The colorful celebration of El Paso’s unique history of more than 400 years returns June 14 through July 27 for 14 performances at 8 PM, Fridays and Saturdays, at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. The June 29 and July 19-20 shows will be performed in Spanish.
The Franklin Mountains provide a naturally beautiful backdrop for Viva! El Paso, a historical extravaganza told with singing, dancing and dramatizations. Created by Hector Serrano in 1978, Viva! El Paso depicts four centuries of the El Paso area’s rich history.
Burges High School’s Keith W. Townsend returns for the fourth year as artistic director. The show combines many of the popular songs, dances and characters from the past, such as the iconic deer dance, with new elements.
The updated script is by Tony Award-winner Marty Martin. Viva! features songs by El Paso music icon Jim Ward, Gabriel Gonzalez and music director Cody Ritchey.
Tickets for opening weekend, June 14-15, are $10.00. Regularly priced tickets are $24.00 for adults; and $16.00 for children ages 2-12, seniors 65 and older and military with a valid ID.
Viva! El Paso tickets go on sale at 10 AM Monday, May 13. Tickets may be purchased at ticketmaster.com and the Plaza Theatre Box Office. Service fees apply to online sales.
